Zurich, Switzerland, November 13, 2003 - ABB, the leading power and automation technology group, said today it has signed a five-year alliance agreement with Bombardier Transportation, the global leader in the rail equipment manufacturing and servicing industry. AUSTRIA: Bombardier Transportation has placed the first contract for ABB’s Effilight roof-mounted traction transformer design, ordering 42 transformers for installation on 21 Talent 3 electric multiple-units which it is to supply to Austrian Federal Railways for use in the Vorarlberg region. ABB has won an order from Bombardier Transportation to provide 42 Effilight® roof-mounted traction transformers for its TALENT 3 electric multiple unit (EMU) platform. The order is the first global commercial success for the recently launched Effilight transformer and is part of a frame contract to deliver up to 600 traction units for 300 trains by the end of 2024. ABB has been contracted by Bombardier Transportation to supply and install Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition and Remote Terminal Units (RTU) to help power Bangkok’s first monorails.The monorails are part of the Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) master plan, a government initiative to create an urban rail commuter network comprising multiple lines.
